Showing some EMO-tion: Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are actually laughing for once

Happy family: Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz were all smiles as they left a friend's birthday party with their son Bronx Mowgli in Los Angeles last night

With a happy marriage, a gorgeous son and a successful career you'd think Ashlee Simpson would have plenty to smile about.

But usually when you see the singer and her husband, fellow musician Pete Wentz the couple look like they have the weight of the world on their young shoulders.

So it was nice to see them both smiling and laughing for once during a day out with their son, Bronx.

The couple and their adorable son were leaving a friend's birthday party in Los Angeles and it seems they carried on the festive mood all the way to their car.

After months of rumours that the couple were dating they went public in April 2008 with the announcement of their engagement.

They married at Simpson's parent's Encino home on May 17 2008 with Simpson's father officiating at the ceremony.

Eleven days later they announced on Wentz's band's website that they were expecting their first child.

Ashlee gave birth to Bronx Mowgli on November 20 2008.

Growing up: Little Bronx is getting big - he's due to turn two in November

Family business: Both Wentz and Simpson have successful musical careers - Wentz is with the band Fall Out Boy and Simpson has a solo career

25-year-old Simpson has gushed about being a parent. Shortly after Bronx's birth she posted on her website: 'Motherhood is the most fantastic experience.'

And says Bronx: 'makes me laugh and smile every day!'

Wentz is equally enamoured of his first born. He says: 'Every time I see my son, it looks like he's landing on the moon and discovering new rocks and stuff.

'I mean, every time he looks at his hand, it's like he's Christopher Columbus making it across the ocean. It's pretty awesome.'

The young couple are claiming that they love parenthood so much that they are even ready to add to their family.

Chip off the block: Mowgli is starting to look more and more like his dad with every passing day

'Children are the most beautiful gifts you can have in life,” Ashlee told OK magazine. 'We’d love to have more kids.'

'I love being a mother. We’re together all the time.Bronx is definitely finding himself, and he’s getting his own personality, so hide-and-seek, and new little things. He does sign language, so that’s been fun.'

Simpson has been taking some time out from work to concentrate on raising Bronx.
She last appeared on Broadway, where she performed a six-week run in the hit musical Chicago, which finished last February.

Simpson recently announced that she has made a return to the recording studio to work on her fourth album.

Dour: Wentz and Simpson usually find it hard to raise a smile between them, even when they are posing together on the red carpet
