Jennifer's journey from teen to A-list shows she's mastered the art of self-presentation

With her big hair and beguiling smile, the young actress shows a hint of the star quality that will one day make her a household name.

But 20 years on, Jennifer Aniston shows how she has truly mastered the art of self-presentation.

The 41-year-old star looked far more groomed and glamorous at the premiere of her latest film than she did as a 21-year-old aspiring ingenue.

She showed off her tanned and toned figure on the red carpet on Monday in a short, strapless pink and black Lanvin dress.

Her hair was sleek and straight, with the addition of the golden highlights that inspired thousands of imitations during her days in the television series Friends.

By comparison, her 21-year-old self appears plain and dowdy in a photograph from 1990 - the same year the actress got her big break with a part in the television version of 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Casually dressed in a loose grey shirt with messy hair, the young Miss Aniston lacks the poise and panache she has acquired in the intervening decades.

In her new film The Switch, Jennifer plays Kassie, a single woman who is desperate for a baby and decides to have artificial insemination to fall pregnant.

Her best friend Wally (Jason Bateman), who is in love with her, drunkenly switches the donor sperm with his own, and doesn't tell her.

Jennifer admitted that she still wishes for a family of her own.

'Yeah, I have said it years before and I still say it today,' she said. But will she turn to the 'turkey baster' method, like Kassie?

'I don't have plans on that, no,' she said.

But speaking to Entertainment Weekly recently, she hinted 'I'm on the verge of it in some way... it's something I long for.'

When asked on the red carpet if she had heard from conservative talk show host Bill O'Reilly, who said recently that her comments about women not needing a man to have a baby were ' destructive to our society', Aniston reportedly smiled and shook her head.
