Sandra Bullock secures protection against stalker she claims has terrorised her for seven years

Relief: the restraining order granted today against Thomas Weldon will protect Sandra and son Louis and remains in place for three years

It has been a difficult year for Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock.

But being granted a permanent restraining order against a man who has been allegedly bothering her for years will be a weight off her mind.

According to reports, 46-year-old Thomas Weldon first began stalking Bullock in 2003 and was later institutionalised for mental illness.

The Blind Side star, 45, obtained a restraining order that remained in place until 2009.
Following its expiration, a temporary order was then put into place last month.

At a July hearing, Bullock's lawyer, Ed McPherson, filed a declaration stating that Weldon has sent the actress numerous faxes and emails over the years, according to accesshollywood.com.

Court papers stated that Weldon admitted himself to a Wyoming emergency room in June complaining of anxiety and sleeplessness.

He later told hospital staff that he had driven from Tennessee in an attempt to meet Bullock at her home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Court papers: Among the names Bullock wanted July's temporary restraining order to cover is Damian Holton, who is listed as Bullock's assistant, but thought to be her bodyguard

Bullock named 33-year-old Damian Holton in July's court papers as someone she wanted the temporary order to cover.

Along with son Louis, a housekeeper, and a nanny, Holton was confirmed as a member of her household.

He was listed as 'assistant' but it was widely reported that he was her bodyguard.

Previous papers filed to the court claimed Weldon had repeatedly tried to contact Bullock and travelled around the country to try and meet her.

The new restraining order will remain in place for three years and protects Sandra's son Louis as well as Jesse James' three children, Chandler, Jesse Jr and Sunny.
