Leona, the giant rodent and the mystery man: Newly single songstress enjoys day at the zoo

By Mail Online Reporter

Here, Capy Capy: Leona Lewis feeds a Capybara, the world's largest rodent, in Hagenbeck Zoo in Hamburg Germany

Only a true animal lover could find a giant rodent cute and cuddly.

So it was probably lucky that Leona Lewis fits into that category when she came face-to-face with this particular species at Hagenbeck Zoo, in Germany.

The singer was confronted by the capybara, the world's largest rodent, on a day out with a mystery man.

It should be noted that even Leona, a self-professed animal lover, kept her distance when feeding the creature.

She was dressed for summer in a belted black dress, aviator sunglasses and nude platform wedges.

The Bleeding Love singer was seen enjoying the petting zoo with a mystery male, who was dressed more casually in khaki shorts and black vest.

A spokesman for Leona was unable to identify the man when contacted by the Mail Online.

Her latest animal encounter comes two weeks after a visit to a bear sanctuary in Romania.

Lewis, a vegetarian, spent two days learning about the plight of abused grizzlies with the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA).

The bears were saved from a life of torture as tourist attractions by the WSPA.

The X Factor said on her Twitter, 'Heading back after my trip to the bear sanctuary! Its sooo amazing, the bears are magnificent. After a life of abuse they r finally happy! X'

Leona has just completed a six-week tour of the UK and Ireland, but has reportedly called off plans to tour Australia, Europe and Asia.

Following her split from childhood love Lou Al-Chamaa, the songstress is said to be heading straight to the studio, possibly using her heartbreak as material for new songs.

The 25-year-old is said to be devastated about the break-up, having previously spoken of their plans to marry.

'One day we will get married,' she said last year. 'I'm sure of it. But that's a long way down the line. We're so young still.'

The Sunday Mirror quotes a source close to the singer saying:

'Leona's heart just wasn't in the tour towards the end of the UK leg. She was upset, teary and heartbroken over her split with Lou.

'She'd been with him for 10 years. This was the love of her life.'

'The last thing she wanted was to be on the road away from a support network of friends and family. She wasn't up for it emotionally.'

Leona has been linked with Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford, who starred in her music video I Will Be last year, and music producer Dallas Austin.

Sources close to the Austin reportedly told the Sun newspaper that he was smitten the star and has even joked that he 'wants to marry her'.
