Jason Statham proved his Everyman credentials yesterday by managing to fit both high-intensity action scenes and shoe shopping with his girlfriend into one day.

The 38-year-old British actor filmed scenes for new movie Safe in the morning.

Then he went shopping with girlfriend Rosie Huntington-Whiteley when she came to visit him on the New York set.

In the scene he was shooting, Statham rescues a little girl from a car and gets into a fight with the kidnapper.

In true action hero style, Statham beats the bad guys to a pulp before ushering the little girl away from scene.

Later in the day, Statham transformed from brutal fighter into sensitive boyfriend as he accompanied Rosie on a shoe shopping trip.

He watched on as the model tried out a series of shoes at a high-end boutique in the SoHo neighbourhood.

He also perused through other trinkets on offer at the store while the 23-year-old English model browsed through the footwear range.

Earlier, Statham, who shot to fame after his role in Guy Ritchie's Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, was spotted on the New York set of his latest movie, Safe.

He plays a former elite agent who rescues an abducted 12-year-old Chinese girl.
