Tensions are running at fever pitch behind the scenes on the X Factor after Matt Cardle launched a stinging attack on under-fire Katie Waissel.

The former painter and decorator, who is the bookmaker’s favourite to win the ITV talent show, blasted the blonde as a 'fame-hungry t**t' - and revealed he wanted her out of the competition and out of the X Factor house.

His comments came after the 24-year-old receptionist was alleged to have leaked a story to a Sunday newspaper about the pair being caught in bed together.

It is a claim Miss Waissel has strenuously denied, saying they were merely watching a Family Guy DVD on his laptop - though she admitted they had kissed each other during a game the week before.

But the 27-year-old hopeful, who is mentored by Dannii Minogue, was said to be 'furious' and 'humiliated' and told Miss Waissel to 'stop making stuff up' in a bid to raise her profile.

And it seems Mr Cardle's rage has not subsided as speaking from the rehearsal studios yesterday he said: 'That stuff about us being in bed together was absolute bullsh*t.

'Katie's a fame hungry tw*t. I can't say any more about it because nothing happened.
'I would never go near her. I'm not speaking to her, I don't have anything to do with her in the house.

'I've made my feelings absolutely clear and if she doesn't get it by now then she's more stupid than I thought.'

Asked what Miss Waissel could do to make amends he said: 'The only thing she could do is leave the competition.

'I don't care if she's in or out of it, as long as she's out of my face. I'm concentrating on the competition, not all that sh*t.'

The singer also denied reports that he had reunited with his girlfriend Lauren Cutmore, saying: 'I'm single.

‘She’s a lovely girl but we are not back together and never will get back together.
'We split up because we split up, it had nothing to do with the X Factor.'

It had been reported yesterday that the singer had reunited with his ex, who he split with just before being put through to the 'Boot Camp' stage.

It's rumoured that he was advised to ditch his four year relationship by X Factor bigwigs, believing that his single status would gain him a wider fanbase and boost his chances of winning Britain's biggest talent contest.

Matt is 6-4 favourite to win the X Factor and has been praised week after week for his strong performances and impressive vocal range.

Following his acoustic performance of Britney Spears’ Hit Me Baby One More Time last weekend, Simon Cowell said: 'It is easy to do a straight cover version of a song but to take a song like that and make it your own – I think you are one of the most important people on the show.’

And even though Miss Waissel has struggled to impress viewers, it seems they are now coming around after she gave two sterling performances over the past two weeks.

Last week, Simon Cowell praised her rendition of I Wanna Be Like You from The Jungle Book, saying: ‘I thought was terrific,’, while Louis Walsh added: 'This is the real Katie. She sang, she danced, she entertained and she's got The X Factor. I loved it.'

Mr Cardle, however said he is struggling to come to terms with his new fame, saying: 'It's all a bit odd but it's nice that the fans want to come and show their support.

'It's a sign that they are enjoying what they see on a Saturday night. The girls just scream all the time.

'I mean, if I had six 25-year-olds screaming at me then it would be different, but they are young girls.’

But Katie Waissel clearly has no such problems. The 24-year-old tweeted a message to fans on Friday, writing: "I'll be back out again soon, I promise!! it's so cute whenever u scream for One Direction I can't help but scream with you lol!!xxx"
The 11 remaining contenders will perform in Saturday's show with the results of the public vote unveiled on Sunday.

X Factor: One more disaster for One Direction as fan is injured in rush to see boy band

Ouch: A young fan ended up with an injured foot in the rush to see One Direction outside X Factor rehearsals in Wembley today


They haven't even released their first single yet and already One Direction appear to be reaching the heights of Beatlemania.

But excitement at seeing their idols turned to pain for one teenage fan today when she ended up injured in the rush to meet the boy band.

A young brunette was left needing hospital treatment after her foot ended up underneath One Direction's taxi as they arrived for rehearsals.

As the taxi pulled up outside Fountain Studios in Wembley, north west London, a group of screaming girls rushed the vehicle so the driver decided to pull away.

In the melee, one fan ended up injured and was later seen wearing a foot brace as she was wheel into an ambulance by paramedics.

A friend of the girl wrote on Twitter: 'OMG, my friend went to the X Factor Studios today and the car that One Direction were in ran over her foot and now she's in hospital.'

The girl's injury comes just two days after One Direction bandmember Liam Payne hurt his ankle after falling on stage during a gig by rapper Tinie Tempah.

The 17-year-old was performing with his bandmates at Koko in Camden, north London when he tripped on stage.

Liam's injury has apparently made the group reconsider their choreography ahead of Saturdays' Halloween-themed live show.

Writing on his Twitter page, Liam said: 'What a doofus! Fell over on stage in front of Tinie Tempah.... so uncool.'

Since they were formed by Cowell, One Direction have quickly established the biggest fanbase on the show with teenage girls across the country going crazy for the five-piece.

The four judges have regularly compared the group to other boy bands or 'five Justin Biebers', with their mentor Simon Cowell dubbing them 'the most exciting popband in the country'.

After their performance last week of Pink's Nobody Knows, Cheryl Cole said: 'You are my guilty pleasure. When you watch the VT and see all the hysteria you cause, that’s what you should do, that’s what boybands should be about.'

However, oldest bandmember Louis Tomlinson broke hearts this week when he admitted he had a girlfriend.

While Cowell has denied Louis Walsh's accusations that he 'only cares about One Direction' and isn't giving full support to girl group Belle Amie, his former proteges Diva Fever has also echoed the Irish judge's comments.

Diva Fever's Craig Saggers, 21, told Now magazine: 'He only cares about One Direction. He sees pound signs when he looks at them.'

X Factor finalists get into the Halloween spirit with a trip to the London Dungeon

As the X Factor finalists prepare to show their dark side on Saturday's show, what better way to get them into the Halloween spirit than a visit to the London Dungeon.

The 11 remaining acts ended up scaring themselves silly as they took time out of rehearsals last night for a few hours of ghoulish fun in the popular attraction.

Their late night antics in the museum were filmed by the ITV2 crew for X Factor spin-off The Xtra Factor.

After checking out the various spooky exhibits, the wannabes posed for a group shot with members of Belle Amie putting their heads in the stocks.

Some of the group braved the London Dungeon's new Extremis ride, which sees seated riders plummet into a dark gloom from a great height at speed.

Embracing the scary nature of the evening, Katie Waissel posted several photos of the night on her Twitter page.

She wrote: 'Just been to the London Dungeons with Xtra Factor and the gang!! I scarpered so fast I left my lace behind.'

In one shot entitled 'now THAT is a chair!', she draped herself across an ornate chair covered in dragons, spikes and gargoyles.

As well as their visit to the Dungeon, the group have also been trying on costumes ahead of Saturday's live show, which is set to have a Halloween theme.

Aiden Grimshaw said he will be signing an 'intense' and 'massive' song.

He told the X Factor website: 'Today we are routining songs for this weekend. I'm really excited about week four. I've been offered the most massivest (sic) song ever in the world. So I'm really excited. It might be another intense one, so Cheryl might not be happy.'

She explained: 'This weekend's going to be a massive shock and I hope everyone is prepared for it because everyone is used to me being a bad girl rapper.

'I'm going to twist it up a bit and prove to the other people that maybe haven’t liked me as much as my supporters have, to think that actually I'm an alright singer.'

Everyone hates me, what's the point of going on? The X Factor Katie Waissel's father says she's at breaking point

Katie Waissel is finally fulfilling the dream she has had since she was six years old. Her music is being heard by millions on the biggest TV show of the year, magazines are clamouring to talk to her, and internet chatrooms are alive with opinions on her.

So why has she spent most of the last few weeks in tears, wondering if she can carry on? Several times already, the troubled singer has had to be talked out of walking off the show by Simon Cowell.


The girl who confidently — and gratingly — walked into X Factor saying ‘I want to be a legend’ is now, say those who know her, a shell of her former self, obsessed with reading every negative story about her.

‘I’ve had Katie sobbing on the phone to me every night,’ her father Maurice said this week. ‘She’s had death threats sent to her over the internet, and we’ve had to ask the police to intervene.

‘Only the other night, Katie said to me: “Dad, what’s the point in going on if everyone hates me.”

‘Let’s face it, X Factor has become a circus where only the strongest survive.’

Katie’s friend and former work colleague Gabi Dee adds: ‘People assume she can take all the criticism because she comes across as so strong - but she is still just an ordinary girl. It hurts her.’

Her friend and hairdresser George John says that Katie cannot understand why she was almost voted out of the first live show, and is being labelled a diva and a sneak.
‘She feels hated, even though she feels she’s done nothing wrong,’ he says.

Of course, X Factor always has to have a pantomime villain, and this year - rightly or wrongly - it’s Katie. On Sunday night, the audience booed when she was kept in.

Eccentric, loud, confident, fiercely ambitious, overly dramatic and liable to spout LA-style mumbo-jumbo (‘I just want my music to be heard and share my stories with the world’), she was never going to be everyone’s cup of tea.

Judge Cheryl Cole faced a bitter backlash even for putting Katie into the final when she fluffed her song at the judges’ houses stage - especially as popular contestant Gamu Nhengu went out.

On set, she has been accused of being a diva. She has argued fiercely with chief stylist Grace Woodward over clothes, and stamped her foot to Cheryl about song choices. There have been bitter rows, too, with her roommate and rival Cher.

Things got even nastier when she was accused of being desperate enough to make up a story saying she was romancing another much more popular contestant, former painter and decorator Matt Cardle - and then selling the story to a Sunday tabloid.
After that, furious fellow contestants dubbed her ‘Katie Weasel’, and it seems many of them have stopped talking to her.

So, all in all, a rather disastrous start for the 24-year-old singer.
Even her former best friend in the house, the flame-haired Storm - who was voted off the show two weeks ago - admitted he had fallen out with her.

He told a radio station: ‘Being on this show brings out the best and worst in people. I think you have to be careful - and I definitely have mentioned that to her - not to try and just be this tabloid queen, because that’s not going to last.’

Katie is now surrounded by the kind of controversy that will have Cowell and the rest of the X Factor producers rubbing their hands with glee.

For it is the endless scandals (as well as Katie, there has been prostitute Chloe Mafia and, of course, fans’ outrage at Gamu not being selected for a wild card entry) which have seen this year’s ratings shoot up by more than a million from last year.

So even though Katie was in the bottom two in the first week of the show, since then the judges have been singing her praises. They’re desperate to keep her in because, love her or hate her, she at least has the ‘interesting’ factor.

But even Cowell is beginning to worry that it all may be a little too much for Katie to handle.

‘Both Simon and Cheryl have had to give her almost constant counselling,’ says one source on the show. ‘She’s also been given a bit of time to see friends and family, to keep her spirits up.’

And Katie’s begun to hit out at what she sees as unfair editing of her performances.

She was angry that she was shown breaking down during her audition at Cheryl’s house, and in interviews has insisted that all the contestants sang two songs — and she performed her other one perfectly.

She also insisted to close friends that she was not responsible for the rumours about her and Matt ending up in bed together. Apparently the security team in the house (designed to stop any romances between contestants) did discover them in bed together, but Katie insists they were clothed and simply watching the TV comedy Family Guy on his laptop.

According to Katie, the story did not make its way to a red-top tabloid through her, and the journalist who wrote the story also insists it came from another source.
Nevertheless, given Katie’s naked ambition for stardom, her rivals and the public seemed happy to believe she would stoop so low for the sake of a few precious column inches.

It is a bitter blow, as none of the contestants has tried harder for stardom than Katie. Friends say she was convinced she had what it takes to win: but now she is one of the favourites to leave the show on Sunday.

Katie, who grew up in a comfortable middle-class home in Harefield, Middlesex, has dreamed of being a star ever since she was first given an electronic keyboard aged six. She taught herself the basics, and begged her parents, who own a fashion boutique, to buy her music lessons.

At the £4,000-a-term private Heathfield School in Pinner, she was notable only for her love of performing in class. One schoolfriend, Megan Zarrabi, said: ‘She never hid her ambition to be a singer.’She went on to study photography and history of art at Amersham College, but also did two jobs at night to pay for vocal coaching with teacher Stevie Vann Lange, whose clients have included everyone from Lulu to boyband Blue.

The first time she met Stevie, she looked at the photographs of Lange’s famous clients and announced: ‘That will be me one day!’ She has always had an unshakeable belief in her own talent.

One of her early fans was Chaz Jankel from the band Ian Dury And The Blockheads, who was so impressed that he started writing songs with her.

Things seemed to be going well, and she opened for the East 17 reunion tour at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in May 2006.

There were agents and label bosses at the show, and Katie was later to recall: ‘I thought, “Great, this is it!”.’

But it was the first of many chances that failed to bear fruit.More gigs followed, and another celebrity fan, Glen Matlock from The Sex Pistols, offered to write songs with her after hearing her perform.

Meanwhile, desperate to mix with the right people, she started hanging out in Camden, trying to get in with the Amy Winehouse crowd.


She dated ex-Apprentice contestant Michael Sophocles (who later sold a story about her), got friendly with singer James Blunt, and attended a party with Pixie Geldof.

At that party she met David Massey, the vice president of Sony Music, who invited her to come and see him. He seemed impressed and asked her to organise an audition for him. But in the end nothing came of it, and Katie’s hopes were dashed.

The story has been repeated throughout the years: high hopes when she toured the UK with X Factor runner-up Andy Abrahams in 2006, and even winning a competition to star in Green Eyed World, an online reality show which documented her attempts to make it. Sadly, they all came to dust.

‘When she got into the finals of X Factor, she was convinced that finally people would get her,’ says one friend, who asked not to be named. ‘She wouldn’t listen to anyone advising her to tone things down a little.’

Even X Factor judge Louis Walsh admitted: ‘Katie’s very ambitious, she’s very contrived. But so is Madonna; so is Kylie; so are all the girls who make it.

‘She’s got a good attitude and she really wants it — and she’s also a good singer.’
Whether or not this is enough to turn the public’s opinion around, we will have to see.

One thing is for sure, though: Katie Waisell won’t be giving up.

For a tender 17-year-old, Cher Lloyd is certainly something of a talent.
However it would appear the X Factor star's make-up application skills are not quite a match for her singing.

The luminous singer was spotted out in London yesterday, with her face caked in orange foundation, making for a rather unflattering look.

Her hair was pulled back into a tight bun, only serving to highlight the difference in skin tone between her face and the skin beyond her hairline.

Perhaps the budding popstar could do with borrowing her mentor Cheryl Cole's make-up artist for a few handy hints.

However, despite her orange look, Cher has been given a huge boost in the street cred stakes by coming in at number 66 in NME magazine's prestigious Cool List.

And the news is likely to anger Muse fans, as the 17-year-old singer was named as cooler than the group's frontman Matt Bellamy and Soulja Boy.

Explaining the decision, NME's Jaimie Hodgson said: 'Watching her "do her thang" in front of monsieurs Walsh and Cowell's dropped jaws genuinely felt a bit subversive and special.'

However, despite earning a place on the list, Cher still has a way to go before she gets into the exclusive top 50, with Jay-Z, Lady Gaga and Kanye West all placing ahead of her and Laura Marling coming in top.

Cher has divided X Factor fans, with some insisting she is relevant and a surefire musical hit, with others arguing she is a diva and not good enough for the talent competition.

And it's not gone too smoothly with Cher and her mentor Cheryl, who is something of an icon to the teenager.

Cher recently admitted she had a 'tantrum' over a stage outfit which was chosen for her to wear, and the pair's different fashion tastes are starting to cause problems.

Pop singer Sinitta, who acted as Simon's aide during the judges' houses section of the competition, said: 'Cheryl’s had problems with Cher, with her style and that, but I think it’s normal for a girl that age.

'If you don’t like your shoes or whatever, you grin and bear it. You do the show and get off stage and you deal with it then.'

And previously evicted contestant Storm Lee, whose rock star image failed to win over the judges, said he thinks both Cher and rumoured foe Katie Waissel are just in the competition to become celebrities.

He told the new issue of Reveal magazine: 'I feel Katie and Cher are there just to be famous, not to become singers - and I wish I hadn’t spent so much time with Katie.

X Factor 2010: Matt Cardle to win, Cher Lloyd next to go if iTunes star ratings are anything to go by...

Thousands of X Factor fans are giving a fascinating insight into how the public might vote on the show by giving their verdicts at the online music store iTunes.

Every week, users rate each remaining contestant's performance on the live show, which they can download on the site.

They can then rate each wannabe from one to five stars, and then post their comments underneath.

MailOnline can reveal that Matt has been the best-rated so far, with Cher the worst.

The downloads have led to page after page of comments filled with love - and hate - and gives a nod as to public popularity of those left in the competition - with Matt Cardle coming out a clear winner when it comes to star ratings, landing a total of 15 stars to date.

He's the only contestant with a clean sheet so far, scoring a five star average rating each week.

Snapping at his heels with a total of 13 and a half each however are Aiden Grimshaw and Rebecca Ferguson.

Languishing at the bottom of the star table however - somewhat surprisingly - is Cher Lloyd, who's only amassed nine stars over the past three weeks of live shows.

Obviously, this is not an exact science, but it gives an inkling as to the public mood and reaction to each contestant's performance - regardless of what the judges think.

The number of people who bother to rate each performance or write a review obviously gives a clue as to how many will bother picking up the phone or hitting the red button to vote when the weekend comes around again too.

The number of comments per week for FYD, Diva Fever, Nicolo Festa and John Adeleye was chronically low in comparison with their competitors - in which case, the lack of comments should be making Paije Richardson feel very worried indeed about his chances this weekend.

Cher has seen a staggering 645 users write a review, and 1756 rate her, whereas only 71 people have taken the time to write down what they think of Paije's live performances, and just 318 to even bother clicking a button to give him a star rating.

Both Matt and Aiiden have a massive following on iTunes too.
There's a huge outpouring of love for Matt with barely a bad word said about him.

Thevickster mirrored what many feel when she wrote: 'Once again, brilliant. Matt was fantastic from the start but still continues to get better and better every week.

'Like others, I wasn't a fan of this song originally, but I can honestly say it is now one of my guilty pleasures! Matt just out classes everyone in the competition.'

Mark Wilson echoed the sentiments, saying: 'Absolute class...a huge star in the making.'

Emma Alexander reflected the views of many about Aiden meanwhile, saying: 'Aiden is such an interesting performer with a really great voice, he injects every performance with feeling. Whenever he performs I just can't look away, he's captivating!'

However, he's not everyone's cup of tea, with Norn Iron Jukebox writing: 'It's like a scene from a thriller horror movie, this portayal of being insane...it's just a tad bit weird for me. It's like you're on something. Maybe a couple of years growing up is needed!'

Storm was slated in the reviews before he got the boot after week two of the live shows. There were accusations that his look was just 'too random' with most people complaining about his hair, others accusing him of being 'talentless' with some suggesting he might find a new career as a clown.

Cher has received a surprisingly negative response on iTunes too, with many saying that her rapping is good, but her singing is failing to cut the mustard with many labelling it weak and one person calling themselves Rynothsaint damning her as 'Ms Vanilla Ice'.

Jefflen said: 'Talks her way through songs, can't sing, looks like a Thunderbirds puppet.'

As for her performance of I Wanna Be Like You, Maiyuet called it 'horrid' and said 'stupid song choice as well. Go to Butlins!'

However, she seems to be winning people over - Little CM said: 'Amazing and totally entertaining' while Bourne777 said, 'bit by bit, since she's stopped wearing the crazy clothes and dropped the attitude, she's developed every week - liked this week's performance, well done.'

And Grissomvox said: 'I hate this girl, can't stand her, but I can't fauly last night, she did great. I would love to put her down but I can't, damn!'
Treyc doesn't have a large following on iTunes, but those that love her are very vociferous.

Mary has a strong following on iTunes, but some reckon that Louis should try and give her some differently styled material. Eightieskid said of her performance this weekend: 'Tonight was a cop out for her and Louis.

'I want to see her do something that challenges her and us.' Miss Santay agreed, saying: 'I love her voice, but her songs are too similar every week. I would like to hear her do something more current.'

Rebecca Ferguson might consistently be getting four and a half stars every week, but some fans are unsure. Adslife says: 'Screechy voice that I don't get but I appreciate that she could be good.' But overall, iTunes users love her.

Jinnyson said: 'Once again Rebecca, you had me glued to my TV. Even if you don't win (that's a very big if!) you'll still have a massive album', while TrapVader said: 'A classy performance of a classic song,' with Iain Smith saying 'she oozes star quality'.

People seemed to like John but couldn't summon the energy to write much about him on the site - possibly mirroring the fact they couldn't be bothered to pick up the phone and vote for him either.

Wagner Carrilho meanwhile has totally divided X Factor fans, with The Original Mrs Orange writing: 'Absolute rubbish - how can people justify keeping this joke on the X Factor? Utter rubbish.'

JohnNdebs however wrote: 'Better songs please Louis! Please show the public that he can actually sing and give him an opera song or something that matches his vocal range not cheesy songs.'

Paije however isn't inspiring many people, with Locojack10 giving him just two stars, and saying: 'I think you've got something, it's just not showing.'

Belle Amie meanwhile are getting big thumbs down, getting their lowest rating yet for their performance of I'll Stand By You on Saturday - just two and a half stars.

The consensus seems to be that they haven't been given - or chosen - the right song yet. As K1mbo said: 'They look good, but I don't think they're strong enough with the standard this year.'
