Action man Tom Cruise shows how he stays in shape at 48 (albeit an odd one)

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Body of work: Tom Cruise, picture on the set of Mission: Impossible IV in Prague today, is still very fit but his form is beginning to show signs of ageing

He's still fit enough to perform his own death-defying stunts, but even Tom Cruise the ultimate action man can't fight the inevitable signs of ageing.

The 48-year-old put his torso on show again today as he continued filming the fourth installment of Mission: Impossible in the Czech Republic.

And while he is clearly still in great physical condition, it is invariably a far cry from his lean machine look in the hit Top Gun.

More than two decades on, gravity is threatening to turn his pecs into the dreaded 'moobs' and he is undoubtedly thicker around the middle.

But that doesn't seem to have put a dent in his confidence and a day earlier he was showcasing his stunt-man tricks with youthful vigour.

Reprising his role as secret agent Ethan Hunt, Cruise simulated leaping from the third floor of a building onto a moving truck.

Hanging from wires attached to the waistband of his dark green trousers, Cruise sped down a zip line that was suspended between buildings.

'I want to entertain the audience and part of making these movies is doing my own stunts,' he has said.

'I love having the camera right there in front of me, where you can see me holding a shot all the way through.

'I think it adds to the excitement for an audience. It's something that is challenging to do and fun for me.'

Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner will be joining in the action with Cruise this time around, starring as Cruise's number two in the movie.

In addition to filming in Prague, the crew and cast will also stop by Dubai and Vancouver before finishing up in Los Angeles.

Cruise first began playing the secret agent in 1996, the franchise has been a box office smash hit over the years.

Mission: Impossible II is one of the top 100 most successful films of all time in the U.S. To date it has made over $215million at the box office.

Mission: Impossible IV will be released in the U.S. in December 2011.
