Natalie Portman makes a quick change at the Toronto International Film Festival as she is tipped for an Oscar for new film Black Swan

Oscar buzz: Natalie is already being tipped for an Oscar for her role in the Darren Aronofsky thriller


Natalie Portman made a quick change at the Toronto International Film Festival today as she promoted her new film Black Swan.

The 29-year-old actress started the day in a casual knitted grey dress and black pumps for a press conference for the film before changing into a pretty black and white ruffled dress and heels for the movie's premiere.

And it's no wonder Natalie couldn't keep the smile off her face, as she has already been tipped for an Oscar for her role in the film, which has received rave reviews at the festival.

Speaking about the buzz surrounding the film today, Natalie said: 'It's very, very flattering. The best thing you can hope for is that people are entertained and moved by your work. And people are responding really positively.'

In the film, Natalie plays Nina, a prima ballerina chosen to lead a New York City production of Swan Lake in the Darren Aronofsky-directed thriller centred around the relationship between two competing dancers.

Nina's rival Lily, played by Mila Kunis, is a more sensual dancer who exhibits all the innate ease and sexuality that Nina lacks, forcing her to assess how she dances and forging an unusual relationship between the two girls.

Natalie said recently: 'The character was very interesting to play, always challenging and surprising.

'The fact that I had spent so much time with the idea, Darren (the director) and I started discussing doing the film in 2000, allowed it to marinate a little before we shot.'

And Natalie had to undertake intense ballet training to ensure she was in the best shape possible for the film.

She said: 'I did ballet until I was 12 and then stopped when I started acting seriously. And then I started again with this film when I was 27. So I did have a decent base and a good turnout.

'But my trainers, including The New York City Ballet's Mary Helen Bowers and Georgina Pazcoguin, were all so instrumental in shaping all of that. I had the greatest people in the ballet world training me.'

The movie also stars Winona Ryder and is released in the UK later this year.
